Dear parishioners:
Beginning today (Ash Wednesday) and for the Sundays of Lent*, our liturgical music will be fully acappella, in keeping with the liturgical documents, and marking the character of this season.
Don't forget to pick up an order of worship on your way into Mass to help you enter into the music of the liturgy!
The Sanctus, Mortem tuam, and Agnus Dei are the simple Latin chants that many in our community already know well. The Pater noster (Lord's Prayer) will be chanted in Latin for all Masses (English and Spanish) during the Lent and Easter Seasons.
We also have a beautiful Gregorian chant Kyrie: Kyrie XVII "Salve", designated in the liturgical books for Sundays of Lent.
The 9am Mass will continue to chant Credo I in English, while 11am Mass will have Credo III in Latin.
You are encouraged to learn our Lenten Kyrie with your family or ministry group using the video below! You'll find the musical notation in our Orders of Worship each weekend too. The YouTube playlist below contains demo recordings of all our basic chants for the Season.
*Exception on Laetare Sunday (Lent IV) when light accompaniment hints at the nearness of Easter. ;)
